PTA Advisory Board Meeting Minutes
November 13, 2007
Shannon Mitchell welcomed and introduced everyone and called the meeting to order.
Minutes from October's meeting were approved.
Treasurer’s report was approved.
PTA memberships are up to 77.
Grocery Cards – See Nancy Miles if you are interested in getting grocery cards. The PTA earns 5% of total sold. They are delivered once a month in the car rider line or from Karen Snipes in the front office.
Upcoming Thrift Shop nights:
- November 14 – Pittsboro Store
- Nov. 20th - 7th grade
- Nov. 26th - 4th grade
- Nov. 27th – Kindergarten
Old Business:
- Water Fountain – tabled
- 100 Year Celebration was a huge success, many thanks to all who helped pull this together.
- Chatham County Rec. Grant for renovation of dugouts. Thanks to Shannon Mitchell and Kelly Marshall, we have been awarded $6500 for this project.
- The Sonic fundraiser for October earned the PTA $100. We will continue to have these the fourth Thursday of each month.
New Business:
- The end of January or first part of February we will be doing a Reading Rocks fund raiser. This is an academic fund raiser where students will get pledges for the amount of minutes they read. A budget request for $500 for this was approved by the Advisory Board to be presented to the General Board at the December meeting.
- Shannon Mitchell and Kelly Marshall are working on a Grant Proposal for Nature Trail Equipment.
- Sonic Cards – We will be selling Sonic cards that have $20 worth of discounts on them.
- Wendy Pealo made a presentation about selling gift cards from various retailers as a fund raiser. The Advisory Board voted to pursue this.
- We will be selling Spirit Wear at the Fall Festival. Volunteers are needed to man the table.
- Shannon Mitchell will be checking on getting a Sam's Club card to be used for school functions.
- On January 22, 2008, Silk Hope will be hosting the PTA Thrift Shop executive board meeting. We will be needing volunteers to help with this event.
- We are in need of a new Volunteer Coordinator. Julie Inman would like to spend some time helping to train someone. If you are interested let Shannon or Julie know.
- Mrs. Frazier informed us that Silk Hope School has been awarded A Signature School Award by the Piedmont Triad Education Consortium. Our school had growth in every area. Their will be a breakfast and a $500 award.
